Our volunteers inspire girls and young women to help them become leaders of their own worlds.

You can either volunteer in one of our existing volunteer roles or share your knowledge, skills and enthusiasm with our other volunteering opportunities.

What Volunteering Opportunities do we have?

Casual Volunteer is a wonderful way to get to know contribute to Girl Guides.
This flexible option is open to all adults (regardless of gender).
You might want to be helping out at a Guide Meeting with the girls, mowing lawns at one of our Girl Guides Properties or offer your skills and advocacy to our state team. Casual Volunteering is a way to give back without having to make a commitment.
Once you have volunteered 4 times you automatically become an Ongoing Volunteer with Girl Guides.

Unit Leader - the most important role in Guiding.
Unit Leaders deliver the weekly guide program to our Girls during term time. They inspire, educate and connect with our Girls and help them become leaders of their own world. But they don’t do it alone - they get full training, receive mentoring and have lots support available to them. Most Unit Leaders start off as Assistant Unit Leaders at their local guide unit so they can learn from an experienced Guide Leader before giving it a go.

Project Champion – Do you feel passionate and want to support some of our key projects with your expertise and energy?
Then become one of our Volunteer Project Champions. They are the bridge between Guide House and the Volunteer world and help us advocate for new projects within the volunteer ecosystem.
We are currently looking for:
1. Multicultural volunteer champions
2. University partnership volunteer champions
3. Gala champions (help us with donations or fundraising for our Gala in March 2024)

Student Volunteer – are you a student looking to volunteer for course credit? We have several opportunities available to students throughout the year and welcome the energy and know-how of our students.

Please contact Paris@girlguides-nswactnt.org.au to find out about our current student opportunities.

Guiding in your Own Language Program
There is the opportunity to create a Unit through the Guiding in your own language program. We are currently exploring Guiding in languages such as Arabic, Hindi, Urdu, Vietnamese, Mandarin, Nepali, Macedonian, Greek, Turkish and Serbian to name a few.

Unit Helpers support the Girl Guide unit when possible.
Depending on your availability this can be anything from helping prepare food for their cooking class, collecting materials for experiments and encouraging participation and engaging with the girls.
Unit Helpers are fully screened.

What is a unit?

A Unit is a Girl Guide group that meets weekly.

We have over 1,000 units spread over NSW, ACT and the NT. You can even create your own unit if you don't find one near you or want to create one in your own language.

What is Screening?

To ensure Guiding remains a safe place for our Girls we ask our Ongoing Volunteers, Unit Helpers and Guide Leaders to undergo screening. This involves completing a Working With Childrens Check, a National Police Check, as well as having two references.

We fully support this process and if you have any screening queries please email:
compliance@girlguides-nswactnt.org.au.

Casual and skills volunteers, who do not engage with our Girls unsupervised, will only need to be screened if they volunteer more than 4 times.

Are you Ready?

Make a difference today and donate to support the empowerment of our future generation of women.
